This is an excellent guide, gold standard, for a homeschooling parent and helps with lesson planning. The author makes each topic come alive, taking the discussion from macro level understanding to zooming into details, back and forth. The student ends up with a good understanding of the high-level context, the connections as well as details of standard curricula topics. This book requires some science background, interest and time from the home educator though. But if you have the three, then it is well worth the effort. It has lots of fun activities that tie in with the subject can help you create an engaging program.
Lessons address all the major areas of science. Lessons build in systematic steppingstone increments so that there is a continual reinforcement and integration as learning advances. Instructions include guiding students to question, observe, think, interpret, and draw rational conclusions in addition to performing the activity. Teachers can learn along with their students and be exceptional role models in doing so. Need for special materials is minimized. Personal, on line, support is available free of charge.
They advertise this book as no background needed in science. I find that it works best for educators with some science background or at least curiosity in the subject and willingness to learn.
This is a three volume series. Let us know if you are interested and we will consider purchasing the other books.
